Now a U.S. citizen, I was born in Nottingham, England. After earning an Honors degree in Philosophy, I taught high school in New Zealand (English & French), founded a modern dance group, and married an English tennis pro.
After a brief stop back in the UK, we moved to the U.S. where I had two daughters and founded another modern dance company. Another stint in N.Z. - another modern dance company. We toured, performed at government functions, and were appointed dancers for the Auckland Cathedral.
Back in the U.S., I ran marathon, taught dance. Then I bumped into a book editor. Now I can't imagine not writing and illustrating -  though now include recording books on CD, and working on animation & multimedia book formats.
Mid-nineties, I founded my own publishing company, FPI, thereby giving myself complete control over my work. Most importantly, keeping it alive and valid in a shrinking book world. Yes, there are ever more books today, but most are now simply sparks going up the chimney. I think my books are more than that and dedicate my days to honoring them. A good choice, from the endless line of readers trying to find me. I hope that putting my own books on Goodreads will make the task easier for them, and reassure them that my books are not, sadly, out of print, but alive and well and that others are ever being born.
As an author I visit many States, and find them all interesting and beautiful in their diversity.
For some years I lived on the North Shore of Long Island, New York. In 2000, I found my Windy Mountain in western North Carolina: a dome atop a wooded hill - 2300 ft or so up on the Eastern Continental Divide. I chug up and down the slopes, write, and record, create movies, teach, and work in our wood patch, seeding in native trees, shrubs, ferns, orchids, and mosses. A full life, and happy, if somewhat turbulent amid the family tumble.
Below is a picture of the dome, taken on our first Thanksgiving there.
